About the gathering
Local Musician, Orno, has hosted many deep listening sessions around town. He wanted to offer it at Jai and coincidentally we have been wanting to create a meditative listening experience.
After some seeds were planted, we at Jai learned of the concept of a Japanese Jazz Kissa, short for Kissaten, which translates to “tea drinking shop.” These were third spaces emerging in the early 20th century that were curated specifically for deep, listening to music and drinking mostly tea or coffee in a peaceful atmosphere.
The concept feels so deeply aligned that we thought we would name this experience Sonic Kissa. The listening journey will be supplemented by Japanese herbal infusions to honor the namesake.
The intention of Sonic Kissa is to call us into a singular sense, our sense of hearing, and to evoke mid-week grounding, and to remedy burnout and our yearning for the weekend. We hope this…
